Music Monday: Childhood Favorites

I will admit that I was a bit of an odd child.

I remember going to my first concert when I was eight. The band: Peter, Paul and Mary. I also remember on the way to the concert being asked if there was a song I'd like to hear. "Wouldn't it be fun to hear them sing Puff the Magic Dragon?" While I thought that it would be o.k. to hear that song, I was really hopping for Where Have All The Flowers Gone or Leaving On a Jet Plane because those were my favorite songs.

I was old before I even had a chance.

This week, I thought I'd share some of my other favorite songs from when I was a kid. I remember singing most of them with my dad as he drove my brother and I to the babysitters in his big green pick-up truck. It's one of my favorite childhood memories.

Leaving on a Jet Plane-Peter, Paul & Mary

Country Roads-John Denver

The Sound of Silence-Simon & Garfunkel

Yello Submarine-The Beatles

I Am The Walrus-The Beatles

  1. Oh my goodness! Great tunes. I love all o' them. I think we may be close to music soul-mates with these 70s tunes. "Country Roads" was the first song I learned how to play on the guitar. I still bust out that chestnut at parties. Nothing gets people singing like "Country Roads." My dad was influential in my love of music, so I'm totally in tune with all those 70s tunes, as well as the funk influence my dad gave me. Rock on!
