Gettin' My Read On: Bout of Books 6.0

Every year I set up a reading challenge for myself: read XX number of books between January 1 and December 31.

Thus far, I've not managed to reach my goal and let's be honest, it is dreadfully annoying.

I love to read.

There have have been many a night (or week) when I've been up into the wee hours of the morning because I am so consumed by the story I don't want to stop. Or, I've put off finishing a book because I have fallen in love with the cast of characters and don't want to say good-bye.

But I also tend to get sucked into genres and read the same types of books over and over and over and get bored thus resulting in a lack of interest in reading and not making my yearly goal.

This years reading goal is the same as it has been for the last two years: 52 books read at the end of 2013. I've said it before and I'll say it again, reading one book a week shouldn't be so difficult. But alas, apparently it is.

To help me actually achieve (or even surpass) my goal, I am once again signing myself up for the Bout of Books reading challenge!

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 7th and runs through Sunday, January 13th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 6.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. -From the Bout of Books 6.0 team

I've done it twice before: once I totally rocked it and the other was a complete disaster. I'm hoping this time out has the same results as my first time participating and not the second.

My goals for this time around aren't terribly lofty, but I'm absolutely o.k. with that. At this point, I simply need attainable!

The goal for this time around is as follows.....
--Read one book of translated fiction/non-fiction (perhaps Life of Pi by Yann Martel)
--Read one banned book (thinking The Awakening by Kate Chopin)
--Read one book of my choosing (taking suggestions!)

Have you signed up for the challenge yet?

    1. Work has been a real challenge for me in the past--working in extra "me time" for reading. But this time around I've actually put "reading" in my schedule. We'll see how it works.

  2. have you tried goodreads? It's one of my favorite websites for keeping track of to-read lists and what not. (mine is here - http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/4694722-octavia-mcaloon )

    1. I love Goodreads! It's the only way I can keep track of what I read and whether or not I liked the book.

  3. I need to give The Awakening another go. Ive started it once or twice over the last decade, but never gotten very far into it.

    1. I've done the same thing which is why I using it for this challenge. I've had so many people recommend it that it feels like a "waste" not to read it.
