Sunday Confessions: The Fitness Edition

Gym Rat: I am really, really enjoying my time at the gym. I've even started to look at that hour as an appointment I can't miss. It's done wonders for my stress levels and for the first time in a long time I've been sleeping like a rock. It has even eased some of being annoyed that I still can't run.

Dressed for Success: I bought a bunch of new workout gear this week, to include a pair of compression carpri pants. They were on sale for $10. It couldn't pass them up! But of course on the same day I was going to wear them to work out, someone make a joke about someone else who was wearing something similar and I totally lost all confidence in wearing my own.

Compartmentalized: It's kind of a bummer that so many bloggers (myself included) feel the need to compartmentalize their lives in multiple blogs. I've especially found this to be true when it comes to those who fall into the "I love myself just the way I am!" category, which is the biggest bummer of all. Just because someone talks about what they eat doesn't meant they are on a diet. Just like someone talking about working out doesn't mean they are automatically trying to lose weight. We need to broaden the spectrum, not narrow it.

Routines: As much as I am diggin' my time at the gym, I am finding myself getting a little bored with the elliptical, so much so I'm starting to look at other things I can do. Any suggestions would be fantastic!

  1. zumba is fun. many people do crossfit, but my sports medicine dr. said that is the majority of injuries that she sees now.

  2. I have the dvd set for Zumba and love it! My uncoordinated self does pretty well. I'm not sure I'm ready for crossfit but I'll look into it.

  3. As you know, my routine includes running, Zumba, and BodyPump. I think I need to work in some yoga. I would also like to try spinning, but I keep getting intimidated by it. Ha. :)

  4. Spinning classes scare the crap out of me. I'd so fall off the bike if I had to stand up on it.

  5. Ditto, dude. Especially about gym time. My friend wanted to hang out and I was all.... well, after I take my class. But it's not a bad thing, right? And ditto also the clothing, although I spend way too much on mine. Yikes.
I like BodyPump and spin class (well except for today's instructor who was super annoying). You don't fall off the bike because your feet are strapped in, promise. And just take it easy and you'll rock it. :) Definitely try BodyPump. Or the rowing machine, that's pretty easy?

  6. The gym I go to is pretty limited in what equipment they have but I was thinking a rowing machine might be a way to change this up a bit.

  7. I would really, really like to have some conversations with other body-acceptance folks about the nitty-gritty day-to-day of eating & moving. I think we can do that without privileging the "good fatty" too much, and it would really help with the sense that those conversations are minefields for fat/body-accepting people.

  8. I am right there with you! I've been working on a spin off to this blog which encompasses just that part of things. Someday I'll integrate the two of them and will have more posts here about that kind of thing, but for now they are separate.

  9. I'll keep my eyes open for that! I wonder if we could get like a forum or something up. Hm...
