What I Read in February

Holy cow. February was a good month for books and I loved almost every second of it!

Thanks to a friend graciously letting me borrow a stack of books and offering a few more suggestions, I definitely wasn't without something interesting to read this month. I'm happy to say that of the 8 books I read (or finished reading) this month, there was really only one real bummer out of the bunch which is quite good considering how different some of the books were from one another.

My favorite book that I read was hands down The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. It was such an amazing, heartbreaking read. I adored the lead character Hazel and was pretty amazed that at 32 years old, how much I was still able to relate to her, especially the scene where she talks about being a grenade in her parents lives. I can't even begin to count the number of times I felt that way (and still sometimes do feel that way) because of depression. This is a book I would recommend anyone read, with the caveat that I'm not sure I would have been able to get through it if I were a parent.

The bummer of the bunch was Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. Blech. It was a real struggle to get through this one, but not because it was dull or didn't have an interesting story. The author did a brilliant job of penning a book packed full of characters I disliked from page one, with the exception of Chick. The rest of them not so much. And I also didn't understand why Mary Licks' story-line was included at all. It just didn't make any sense to me. My best guess is that it was all filler, but I suppose only the author will really know the answer.

Here is the total list of books I read in February. I can't wait to see what the stack of books I have to read for March has in store. Happy Reading!

  2. It was fantastic to carve out that time for myself to read each night. Didn't really help much in terms of getting a lot of sleep, but it was a fair trade-off.
