Reading Journal

I realized the other day while chatting to a friend about a book I read, I'm terrible at remembering a) what books I have or have not read, b) whether or not I liked or disliked the book and c) why I liked or didn't like the book. The worst part though is that the book I was asked about I had finished the day before. Less than 24 hours after I finished the book.

And to top it all off, I can never remember when someone recommends a book unless I write it down. I fear I have missed the opportunity to read a great number of amazing books because of this. Don't get me wrong, I love Goodreads and use it to keep track of self imposed reading challenge and it does list some of the books I want to read, but I'm the type of person that if I don't write something down by hand, it's not going to be committed to my memory for very long.

So, in an attempt to not only keep myself organized (Ha! Me organized. That'll be the day!) but to also keep track of what I've read, I've decided to start a Reading Journal so I can keep track of everything I want to read, have read and also what I thought of each of the books. It's also an excuse to use one of my MANY blank notebooks lying around my home office begging to be used for something. I think it'll be fun to look back through it so see when/if my preferences in types of books change but also to read what I had to say about each of the books after I've finished them.

How do you keep track or remember the books you've read?

  1. I keep a list of what I've read (and my thoughts) in a private entry on my LiveJournal. That's the easiest place for me to keep it. But I think a reading journal is a good idea. Sometimes I forget I read something or what I thought about it otherwise.
